Blue like the Foo

Today I'm thrilled to welcome Kelly of Design Ties! Kelly makes up one half (the other is the lovely Victoria) of the glamorous Canadian design team behind Design Ties. I fell in love with their site ages ago, and it's one of my must-reads every day! If you like design, you'll LOVE their site! Welcome Kelly!

If you’re a regular reader of A Lil’ Welsh Rarebit, you’ve seen lots of pictures of the adorable Ms. Foo…

…who happens to have the most amazing blue eyes :-)

Here’s something about blue eyes you may not know — a research team at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark has discovered that all people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor.

Originally, all humans had brown eyes. But a genetic mutation that took place between 6,000–10,000 years ago affected the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes. This resulted in the creation of a “switch”, which literally “turned off” the ability to produce brown eyes. This mutation is the reason for the eye colour of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today. Which means that the Foo and I are 673rd cousins sixty-eight times removed, or something like that ;-)

OK, enough science for today!! In honour of Ms. Foo, my guest post today is all about the colour blue :-)

Why don’t we sit down here…

Blue

There are so many shades of blue — sky blue, bright blue, navy blue, cobalt blue, baby blue, turquoise blue, powder blue… When you think about it, we’re surrounded by more blue than any other colour. Especially people who are lucky enough to live by the water…

Cobi Ladner, the former editor of Canadian House & Home magazine has a great new blog called bloggity blog blog blog… Cobi found an abandoned nest with a robin’s egg still in it and set out to find the perfect robin’s egg blue paint colour. Her final choice — Sico Anticosti Grey 6161-41. To see Cobi’s complete list of robin’s egg blues, click here.

This is only a fraction of the beautiful blue pictures I found as I searched for blues for this post. I just might have to do a blue post over at DesignTies one of these days too :-)

Thanks for the opportunity to guest post for you, Christy :-)

I love it! I don't have much blue in my house, but I would love to make my bedroom blue and relaxing. I especially loved the nautical inspired blue pics.

Speaking of eye color, did you know that there is no such thing as green eyes? I have dark green eyes. Anyway, there is only blue and brown. If you have green eyes, it is a mix of the other two colors and not a true color in itself. Weird, huh?

I love those images. Blue is one of my favorite colors for decorating. Actually, it's a tie between blue and yellow which look fantastic together - so I rarely have to struggle with a palette.
